First meeting with Broken By The Scream !

Release on last July 20th, «RISE into CHAOS» is, at the same time, the third full album of Broken By The Scream (BBTS) but also its first opus under a major label! Including twelves tracks, this new release allow the band to enter on international market and answer a growing expectation. Thanks to a constant increase of YouTube views and a growing international expectation, BBTS accepted to make its first French interview.

KRM – Hello! As it's your first French interview, could you please introduce yourself to our readers?

AYAME – I'm Ayame Yabusame, the band's leader.

TSUBAKI – I'm Tsubaki Nanaohgi on clean voice.

IO – I'm Io Nodukidaira on death growl.

KAGURA – I'm Kagura Uriin on high pitched scream

KRM – Broken By The Scream presents a rather surprising concept for a female band: 2 voices dedicated to screams and two others for clean vocals. What the story of the BBTS's birth?

AYAME – It's Electro Sonar, our producer, who wanted to create an idoles band with extreme sound characteristics. Each of us listened to the music and we all thought the project was interesting.

KRM – Five years ago, BBTS made its debuts on music world. What are your feelings about theses first five years? Do you have some special memories?

IO – Special memories... It's really hard to choose only one because I'm moved by music, lives shows and many other things at the same time. Recently, the world has been feeling quite down with the Coronavirus disaster, so we decided to organize a Japanese festival called «Fest of Extreme», hosted by Broken By The Scream. The result was amazing shows and guests in front of a packed venue. It was exactly what I wanted! That's why I want to share more and more the excitement of our shows with everyone. And of course, with you who are reading this abroad!

KRM – We feel a duality in your songs. A dark side and a brighter facet. What is your creative process?

KAGURA – So far we don't composed the music by ourselves, but recently, we tried to share our thoughts with our producer about music we want to try and messages we want to express. So I think our musicality will expanded more. I'm influenced by various bands, not just one artist. But when we formed the band, the concept was to play music that was extremely powerful as Dragon Force at this time.

KRM – Your new album, «RISE into CHAOS», marks your major label debut. How does it differ from its predecessors?

TSUBAKI – First of all, the fact that I'm here is different from the last one. (Laughs)

KAGURA – Yes, I know! (Laughs) It's very important!

TSUBAKI – Maybe it's not really for me to talk about, but I think we were all conscious of how catchy we could make it sound without losing the intensity of the previous one.

IO – We were perfectly aware of the fact that we released an album for a major label.

KRM – If you have to choose only one track from this album to describe BBTS, which one and why?

AYAME – OMG! It's a very difficult question ! «ココロ、晴レ晴レ» (Kokoro Harebare) is a catchy good song, but «感情クロスカウン ター» (Kanjo Cross Counter) which was release before, is intense and catchy like BBTS!

IO – I like «メラメラセニョリ ータ» (Mera Mera Senorita) because it's brutal.

KRM – «ココロ、晴レ晴レ» and « 感情クロスカウンター» are released with a MV. Why did you choose these 2 songs to represent the album?AYAME – I think the producers choose these two songs. About «感情クロ スカウンター», it was our first song after TSUBAKI joined the band. I think he thought it was the best song to be our business' card and allow people who are listening it to know who is BBTS. The song is fully packed with intensity and catchiness. And about «ココロ、晴レ晴レ», it's like adding more cuteness onto it. It's more for people who like pop songs and want to know about BBTS.

KRM – Japanese women's metal has seen strong growth in recent years, especially internationaly. Bands like BABYMETAL have had extraordinary carreer paving the way for new generations. From your point of view, how can we explain this success?

KAGURA – I think it's simply amazing! It's a dream which is becoming true to think that little Japanese girls have achieved what no other Japanese artists have been able to do.

AYAME – I admire these bands, and at the same time, I have a strong will to get there as BBTS!

IO – Yes!! I definitely think Broken By The Scream can make it!

TSUBAKI – Difficult to explain what is success. As for BABYMETAL has a gap between its visual and the sound. Really surprised, isn't it?

KRM – The majority of Japanese girls metal bands are really successful overseas. Is this also your case? Is your community more made up of Japanese or foreign fans?

IO – I'm not quite sure about this but a lot of fans from overseas came to see our shows before the pandemic. And we always get lots of good reactions from overseas on YouTube and our SNS. The number of views has been increasing remarkably, especially overseas fans are very straightforward on the reaction. I'm very pleased.

KRM – You've already had the chance to perform abroad but never in Europe. Would you like to perform there soon?

TSUBAKI – I wanna go abroad. I'm the only one who hasn't performed overseas yet!

AYAME – It's true! It seems that we are getting contacts from overseas little by little. I'm sure one day we'll be able to be there, so please look forward for it!

KAGURA – I really want them to listen our CD as many as possible.

KRM – « RISE into CHAOS » was released few days ago. What are your next projects?

IO – Are we? (Laughs) We're hoping to keep evolving more and more, so you can look forward to next year.

KRM – To conclude, would you have a last word for our readers and your French fans?

AYAME – Of course! Thank you for your support everyone in France. Nice to meet you. We're working harder on the music that only we can make. If you haven't heard us yet, listen to us right away! We would definitely like to do a live show near your area soon. Until then, let's stay healthy and happy. We hope our music will be by your side as you live your life! Thank you!

Our team wants to thank Broken By The Scream for its availability and Kojima Mayumi for allowing this interview.
